Service Writer drafts a Work Order from an open Issue. When a user chooses to draft, Fleetio reads the issue, the vehicle's recent service history, due and overdue Service Reminders, and related open issues, then proposes a set of Service Tasks for the user to review. The user selects which lines to keep and creates (or adds to) a Work Order. Nothing is created until the user reviews and confirms.
NOTE: In order to use Service Writer, you must have access to Work Orders (Professional and Premium accounts) and have permission to update the Issue and create Work Orders. Cost estimates in the draft will be hidden from users who do not have permissions to view Work Order cost information.
This feature is only available on the web app.
View Work Order Draft on Issues
- On the sidebar navigation, click Issues and then choose Issues to view the index.
- Select the Issue you would like to view.
- Click the Resolve dropdown on the top right and select Draft Work Order.

- Once you draft a Work Order, you will notice the Work Order drafts in a few locations on this overview tab:
- At the top of the overview
- By clicking the Resolve dropdown on the top right

- Click Review Draft.
- Review the recommendation from the draft. Service Tasks are grouped by tasks that “Resolves this issue” and items that are “Also recommended for the vehicle" (this draft lines from related due/overdue reminders or other open issues on the same vehicle). From here you can:
- View estimated cost for the line item (only applicable if your account has enough Service History over the past 12 months to display this)
- Check or Uncheck any service task you don't want to complete with the Work Order
- Complete required categorization
- If an open Work Order already covers the issue, the draft can add the selected lines to that existing Work Order instead of creating a new one
- When complete, click Create Work Order. The Work Order will now be accessible in Fleetio.
