Meter Validation in Fleetio Go

When entering meter readings on Fleetio Go, you may accidentally type an incorrect value - for example, including an extra digit or transposing two numbers. To help ensure the integrity of your data, Fleetio automatically provides Meter Validation for every meter reading you enter.

It is important to keep accurate and up-to-date meter readings for your Assets. Since meters don't roll backward, Meter Entry values in Fleetio must always increment in sequence by date. These meter values are used in various Reports and Usage calculations and help you stay on top of the meter-tracked Service Tasks according to your Preventative Maintenance schedules.

Meter Validation ensures that new meter readings fit into the correct incremental sequence with past and current meter readings.

Meter Entries in Fleetio Go

Meter readings can be updated in Fleetio Go when completing the following:

  • Meter Entry
  • Inspection Submission
  • Fuel Entry
  • Service Entry
  • Work Order
  • Vehicle Assignment
  • Issue

For each new meter reading, Fleetio will check the existing entries in Meter History to ensure the new value fits in sequence.

Meter Validation - Value Too Low

If you attempt to record a meter value that is lower than an existing meter entry on or before the date of the new entry, Fleetio will prompt you to Edit or Void the meter entry.

Meter Validation - Value Somewhat High

Fleetio determines that a Meter Entry might be somewhat high based on a standard deviation calculation for the Asset's average daily usage. The calculation relies on three previous Meter Entries, so a high validation failure will only happen if there are at least three readings in the Odometer History. Since there may be situations in which a slightly higher-than-usual meter entry is, in fact, correct, you may override the warning.

If you attempt to record a meter value that slightly exceeds the standard deviation, Fleetio will prompt you to Edit or Keep the entry.

Meter Validation - Value Too High

Fleetio determines that a Meter Entry might be too high based on the likelihood that a Vehicle traveled a significant, or in some cases, impossible, distance. The maximum for each meter type is:

  • 3,000 mi/day
  • 4,828 m/day
  • 24 hr/day

If you attempt to record a meter value that exceeds these calculations, Fleetio will prompt you to Edit or Void the entry.
