Places Overview

Places in Fleetio allow you to identify and save specific Location Entries that are important for your fleet. Location Entries are generated when a User performs certain actions in Fleetio Go.

Location Entries may also be created through an API or GPS integration.

When a new Place is added, a Geofence defines its boundaries. Geofences are used to signal when a Location Entry falls within a certain radius of a place and allow you to set up Alerts to monitor activity.

Places Index

Click Places in the Sidebar Navigation to view the Places index.

In the Places index, you can:

  1. Use the Search bar to search for a specific place
  2. Filter your results using the quick filter options or open additional filters by clicking the Filters button
  3. Customize which columns are shown and in what order by clicking Index Settings and selecting Manage Columns.

Create a New Place

To create a new Place, click the + Add Place button in the Places index.

You can add a new Place by manually entering the address information, or by using the map to draw a Geofence as shown below.

Address Entry

  1. Enter a Name (a) for your Place and an optional Description (b).
  2. Use the Address field (c) to search for the address. Fleetio uses Google Maps to locate addresses.
    • You can manually enter the Latitude and Longitude (d), but they will auto-populate based on the address entered.
  3. Select or input a Geofence Radius (e) in meters. 

When you enter the address information and input a Geofence Radius, the map on the right will update to show the location.

  1. When you're finished, click the Save Place button.

Using the Map

You can use the map to draw a circle or shape to input the address and Geofence for your Place.

  1. Enter a Name for your Place and an optional Description, as shown above, and use the map controls to draw your Geofence.
    • Click the hand icon to click and drag the map to find your location. You can also pinch or scroll to zoom in and out.

Draw a Circle

  1. Click the Draw a Circle icon.

  1. Click the center point of your circle, and drag outwards to create your Geofence.
    • The Address, Latitude, Longitude, and Geofence Radius fields will automatically update based on the area you select.

  1. When you're finished, click the Save Place button.

Draw a Shape

  1. Click the Draw a Shape icon.

  1. Click to place a point on the map. Each click will add another point to draw your shape.
    • The Address, Latitude, Longitude, and Geofence Radius fields will automatically update based on the area you select.

  1. When you're finished, click the Save Place button.

View Latest Location Entries

Once a Place has been created, you can click on it in the Places index to view its details.

The most recent Location Entries from Vehicles or Contacts within the Place's geofence will appear in the Latest Location Entries tile.

Create an Alert for a Geofence

Create alert policies to trigger alerts when a Vehicle or Contact enters or leaves a geofence. Alerts are sent as emails to any designated recipient.

To add a new alert policy:

  1. Click on a Place in the Index to view its Details Page.
  2. On the Overview tab, click + Add Alert Policy in the Geofence Alert Policy tile.

  1. Fill out the Add Geofence Alert Policy form:
    1. Choose a Trigger
      • Vehicle is within/outside Geofence
      • Contact is within/outside Geofence
    2. Choose Vehicles or Contacts (choices adjust according to the selection in Step 1)
    3. Choose Groups
    4. Add a brief Description
    5. Switch the toggle ON/OFF to Enable/Disable the alert
    6. Type the body of the Email Message
    7. Choose the Contacts who will receive the alert
      NOTE: Only Contacts with an email address are available. If you would like to receive alerts for the policy, add yourself to this list.
    8. Switch the toggle ON/OFF to Include Watchers of the Vehicle for this alert

  1. When you're finished, click the Save button.

Import and Export Places

Import Places

You can import Places into Fleetio using a CSV file.

  1. Click the Quick Add button and select Import Data.

  1. Click Browse Import Templates
  2. Select Places in the import sidebar, then click the Download button and select Empty Template to download a CSV template.

  1. Enter the information for your Places in the CSV template, then follow the instructions in New Data Import Overview to complete your import.

Export Places List

If you would like to export the list of Places in your account, click the More Actions Button and select Export Data.
