Integrating your Fleetio account with a third-party GPS provider helps you keep current with accurate vehicle and asset meter readings. Many Preventative Maintenance Service Programs and individual Service Reminders are driven by recurring meter intervals, so triggering maintenance-due notifications often relies on this current meter data. GPS integrations allow for the automatic nightly import of the most current meter reading, eliminating manual data entry and errors.
The meter entry import process varies based on the integration type (Native or API). Most native integrations automatically import Meter Entries on a nightly basis, with the option to manually refresh at any time.
Fleetio attempts to pull new/current data each night. If the Vehicle has not moved, or if the GPS device has not recorded any activity, this regular nightly import may result in multiple meter entries with the same date and meter reading. Although these meter entries may at first appear to be duplicated, closer examination shows that the data is new and updated.
Each row in the meter history table is a new and separate entry in the Fleetio database. The "i" tooltip notes that while the above Meter Entry is dated February 14, the data was pulled into Fleetio on February 16.
This indicates that the most current data available to Fleetio on February 16 was dated February 14 at the GPS device source. Fleetio demonstrates that while the device data may be out-of-date, the data transfer is more recent.
