The Fleetio MCP Server lets you connect AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT directly to your fleet data. Using the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for connecting AI tools to external data sources, you can ask your AI assistant natural language questions about your fleet and get answers drawn from your live Fleetio account.
PLAN AVAILABILITY: Fleetio MCP Server is available for Professional and Premium Plan customers.
PERMISSIONS: Owners, Administrators, and Regular Users with the Manage Fleetio MCP Connection permission can connect once the MCP Server has been authorized for the account. Learn more about User Roles and Permissions.
What you can do:
- Ask your AI assistant about vehicle status, work orders, inspections, and more.
- Query and summarize fleet data without leaving your AI tool.
- Build AI-assisted workflows on top of your Fleetio data.
Server URL: https://mcp-server.fleetio.com/mcp
NOTE: The Fleetio MCP Server is currently read-only. Your AI assistant can look up and summarize your fleet data, but it can't create, edit, or delete anything in your Fleetio account. The authorization screen may list write permissions: that's the integration's full permission set; the MCP Server itself only reads.
Connecting Your Agent
Setup takes a couple of minutes. Pick your AI tool below and follow the steps.
TIP: Sign in to your Fleetio account in your browser first. The authorization step will then recognize you automatically, which is especially helpful if your company uses SSO or SAML. Menu names in AI tools change often. If a step doesn't match what you see, check the tool's own guide:
Claude (Web & Desktop)
- Open Settings → Connectors in the desktop app.
- Click Add custom connector.
- Enter the name: Fleetio
- Enter the server URL: https://mcp-server.fleetio.com/mcp
- Click Add.
- Click Connect, then log in to Fleetio and authorize the connection. To use the connector in a conversation, click + in the chat input, choose Connectors, and enable Fleetio.
To use the connector in a conversation, click + in the chat input, choose Connectors, and enable Fleetio.
Claude Plan Requirements: Free plan users are limited to one custom connector. Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans support multiple connectors. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner must add the connector first via Organization Settings → Connectors, after which members connect individually.
Claude Code
Run this command in your terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http fleetio https://mcp-server.fleetio.com/mcp
Then open a Claude Code session and run /mcp to complete the login flow.
Codex CLI
Run this command in your terminal:
codex mcp add fleetio --url https://mcp-server.fleetio.com/mcp
Or add it manually to your ~/.codex/config.toml:
[mcp_servers.fleetio]
url = "https://mcp-server.fleetio.com/mcp"
Then start Codex and complete the login flow when prompted.
ChatGPT
- Open Settings → Plugins and turn on Developer mode.
- Click + (Create).
- Enter the name: Fleetio
- Enter the server URL: https://mcp-server.fleetio.com/mcp
- Choose OAuth as the authentication method, click Create, then click Connect, log in to Fleetio, and authorize the connection.
Once connected, open the Developer mode tool in the chat composer and select Fleetio for that conversation. Custom MCP plugins work in ChatGPT on the web, not in the mobile apps. The Codex app connects the same way.
NOTE: ChatGPT connector support varies by plan. Custom connectors are available on ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu.
What You Can Do
Your AI assistant can read almost everything in your Fleetio account: vehicles and equipment, work orders, issues, service history, PM and renewal reminders, inspections (including which items failed), fuel and expense entries, meter history, parts and inventory, purchase orders, assignments, vendors and contacts. Just ask in plain language; the assistant finds the right data and pulls it live from your account, and tells you what it's about to look up before it runs.
- Ask your AI assistant about vehicle status, work orders, inspections, costs, and more.
- Query and summarize fleet data without leaving your AI tool.
- Build AI-assisted workflows on top of your Fleetio data
Once connected, try prompts like:
- “Which vehicles have overdue PM reminders?”
- “Summarize open work orders and who they're assigned to.”
- “What failed on this week's inspections?”
- “What did we spend on fuel per vehicle last month?”
- "Give me an overview of vehicle #1042."
TIP: If the assistant can't find something, try using different words: "fuel entries" instead of “fuel purchases,” "service reminders" instead of "maintenance due".
Manage MCP Server
Owners and Administrators can connect once the MCP Server has been authorized for the account.
Connect the MCP Server
- Go to your Account Menu and select Settings.

- In the settings sidebar, select Fleetio MCP Server under Developer.
- Toggle the feature on to access the server URL and connection status.
User Access
To grant permission for Regular Users to connect:
- In the Settings sidebar, click Roles in the User Access section.
- Click the role you would like to view and then scroll down to the Fleetio MCP section.
- If the role has Full Access, the user will be able to connect, update, and disconnect AI assistants.
- If the role has Some Access, the Manage Fleetio MCP Connection box must be checked.

- Each user then connects from their own AI tool using the steps above.
You can revoke access at any time in Settings → Fleetio MCP Server.
- Revoke removes your own connection.
- Revoke for all users disconnects everyone on the account.
Requesting New Tools
If you ask for something the Fleetio MCP Server can't do yet, your assistant will let you know and offer to submit the request to Fleetio. Say yes, and it's submitted directly to our product team. You can also request at any time to “Send feedback to Fleetio: I'd like to see vehicle documents.”
Requested tools are reviewed and prioritized based on demand across all customers. You can also reach out to your CSM at any time.
Common Questions
Do I need an API key?
No. You sign in with your existing Fleetio login through a secure connection. No keys to create or store, and your AI tool never sees your password.
Which AI agents work with this?
Claude (Web, Desktop, and Code), ChatGPT, and Codex today. Since MCP is an open standard, more agents will work over time as we expand support.
What data can the MCP Server see?
Exactly what your Fleetio role allows, nothing more. Fleetio doesn't keep a copy of your data for the AI tool; every answer comes from a live lookup in your account.
Are there any rate limits?
Yes. Requests count toward your plan's API rate limit (50 requests/minute on Professional, 250 on Premium). Learn more in API Keys.
Why can't it find something I know is in Fleetio?
Try different words for the same thing first. A few things aren't available through the Fleetio API yet, for example, archived vehicles and vehicle documents, so the MCP Server can't see them either. Use the request feature to help Fleetio track demand.
I see "An administrator must authorize…" or "You do not have permission…"
The first means the MCP Server hasn't been authorized for your account yet. The second means your role doesn't include the Fleetio MCP permission. See Manage MCP Server above.
How do I disconnect?
Go to Settings → Developer → Fleetio MCP Server and click Revoke, or remove the Fleetio connector in your AI tool.
A tool I need is missing. What do I do?
Ask your assistant to try it anyway. You'll be prompted to request the capability directly. See Requesting New Tools above.
