Benchmarking is designed to help you compare your fleet against broader benchmarks and identify trends over time.
NOTE: Advanced Analytics is only available for Premium plan accounts.
Accessing Benchmarking
To locate benchmarking, click Reports on the sidebar navigation and select Advanced Analytics.
To make benchmarking available, click the gear icon next to Dashboards and check to enable benchmarking.
Understanding the Data Sets
There are two main benchmarking areas: maintenance and fuel.
NOTE: Fuel benchmarking only appears if you manage fuel in Fleetio and have fuel entries. If you do not track fuel in Fleetio, you will not see benchmark data.
Segmentation
There are four segmentation filters that can be used to narrow the comparison. The more filters you apply, the smaller and more specific the benchmark group becomes.
You can filter by:
- Fleet size
- Industry
- Fleet mix (Heavy, Medium or Light duty)
- Region (only U.S. supported currently)
Dashboard Functionality
Users will be able to interact with the dashboard to pin specific charts (a), downloading (b), copying (c ), and scheduling (d).

Review the Dashboard - Maintenance
Most metrics are shown on a year-long timeline since benchmarking is more useful over a longer period of time.
You may click Explore to adjust the timeline, but we recommend viewing at least a minimum of 6 months.
Total Maintenance Costs
Under the Maintenance tab, the top chart shows the Maintenance cost per meter trend. The cost-per-meter metric is based on total distance driven and total maintenance spend. The metric adjusts for units, so it works for miles or kilometers depending on unit set in your account.
The dashboard also separates scheduled vs. unscheduled maintenance.
These comparisons rely on the VMRS class, which is used to normalize whether work is scheduled or unscheduled.
Maintenance Spend Comparisons
The bottom maintenance metrics show maintenance spend in dollars. You can compare Scheduled maintenance spend vs. benchmark and Unscheduled maintenance spend vs. benchmark.
If no filters are applied, the benchmark compares the fleet against the full Fleetio customer base.
NOTE: The data is live, but it is displayed at a monthly level. You will not see a full month populate until the month closes (e.g. July data would not fully appear until July 31).
Review the Dashboard - Fuel
To view the Fuel benchmarking dashboard, click the Fuel tab under Advanced Analytics>Benchmarking.
The dashboard includes the following reports:
- Fuel fleet spend vs. benchmark
- Fuel volume vs. benchmark
- Cost per volume comparisons
These metrics help you understand how much you spend on fuel, how much fuel you consume, and what you pay per unit of fuel.
KPI Callouts
The KPI cards below the fuel charts are meant to show how far above or below the benchmark you are, and to show an indication for items such as:
- How much your account is above benchmark spend
- How your volume compares to benchmark
- How your cost per volume compares to benchmark
Benchmarking on AI Data Analyst
You can also utilize the AI Data Analyst in Advanced Analytics to build charts for maintenance and service benchmarking and it can answer benchmarking-related questions.
